Who We Are

Beyers Chocolates was founded in 1987 by Kees Beyers, a Belgian born confectioner. He identified a gap in the South African market for high quality confectionery that could compare to European products, and so he immigrated, bringing his native chocolatier training and trusted Belgian recipes to South Africa.

The company was initially based in a 40m² premises and has grown to a 7 000m² manufacturing facility. We are still expanding and have added a new office and two factory shops – one in Johannesburg and the second in Cape Town – to our facilities.

At Beyers Chocolates we manufacture our own range of confectionery, including local favourites like Sweetie Pie, Amarula, and Dream Bear, and we have an extensive range of sub brands and private label products that are supplied to airlines and the hospitality industry. Our chocolates are also stocked by some of the country’s leading retailers – with the longest relationship being over 25 years. This means that many South Africans have been eating Beyers Chocolates for decades without even realising it.

Today, we are the largest independent manufacturer of boxed chocolates in the country, supplying local and international markets with quality, handcrafted, proudly local products.

Beyers Chocolates is a family business, with a passion for making high-quality confectionery. The majority of our products are handcrafted, and chocolate fillings are made from scratch using traditional Belgian methods. Chocolates are made in small batches to ensure they are always freshly produced, look beautiful and reach the customer in optimal eating condition. To keep up with international confectionery trends we are innovative and flexible and we create fresh, exciting flavours and develop limited editions and special, unique recipes to satisfy every taste.

Maintaining High Quality Standards

Beyers Chocolates is committed to food safety and product quality. This commitment is evident through the implementation of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) based food safety programmes, in line with internationally recognised Codex Guidelines. The company has also been BRC “A” Grade approved since 2009. An independent, third party auditor assesses their food safety system on a regular basis, to ensure that they provide a safe product to their customers.

All chocolates and biscuits manufactured by Beyers Chocolates comply with the following:

  • NAFNAC (No Artificial Flavours or Colours) recipes
  • No HVO fats
  • No GM (Genetically Modified) ingredients
  • All ingredients are free of any chemical treatments
  • No animal bi-products are used in our fats and oil
  • Products are suitable for vegetarians
  • Halaal certified where applicable
  • Minimum 35% cocoa content in our milk chocolate
